BBT content

The aim of this page is to provide the reader with the outcome of the work of a team of experts, who are focusing on designing and building effective and efficient classification systems for research infrastructures in the humanities.  It contains both the official versions of the BBT and the basic methodological principles and preconditions which could ensure the intersubjective and interdisciplinary character of classification systems and their consistent implementation. In particular, it includes a tutorial, which demonstrates a methodology that is based on the faceted classification system, practical guidelines explaining the necessary steps for building the general concepts that should be used in thesauri, and practical advice on how to avoid logical and semantical inconsistencies by subsuming terms.
It concludes with providing the reader with examples of both good and inconsistent practices.

BBT Tutorial

Guidelines

Here you can find step by step advice on how to identify the upper level concepts for thesauri to be used as an indexing language in order to facilitate successful searches in manually indexed information systems of documents or data records and on how to avoid logical and semantical inconsistencies by subsuming terms under the broader categories of thesauri based on the faceted classification.
